Concession awarded to Petroleum Development (Trucial Coast) Ltd.; PD (TC).
1947
Geological exploration began.
1950
Drilling of first well at Ras Sadr commenced.
1960
First commercial oil discovery-Bab field.
1962
Second commercial oil discovery-Bu Hasa field and Company name changed to Abu Dhabi Petroleum Company, ADPC.
1963
First shipment of crude (Murban) exported from Jebel Dhanna terminal.
1965
Third commercial oil discovery-Asab field, and first relinquishment of part of the concession area.
1966
Fourth commercial oil discovery-Shah field, and Company Main Office moved from Bahrain to Abu Dhabi.
1967
Fifth commercial oil discovery-Sahil field.
1973
Government of Abu Dhabi acquired 25% interest in the concession assigned to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, ADNOC.
1974
Government interest increased to 60%.
1978
Establishment of Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations, ADCO under Law No. 14 for 1978.
1979
ADCO became the operating company for the concession.
1982
Drilling commenced on Hudariat and Dabbi’ya man-made islands.
1983
Commissioned Shah field.
1984
Khuff gas discovery at Hail.
1987
Completed full field development in Bu Hasa and Asab.
1989
Re-commissioned Bab field.
1990
Broke world record twice in short-radius horizontal drilling.
1993
Commissioned three additional storage tanks at Jebel Dhanna with a capacity of one million barrel each, commenced early production scheme from Jarn Yaphour field, completed Bab field oil development project and celebrated 30th Anniversary of first crude shipment.
1994
Commissioned early production scheme from Rumaitha, Shanayel & Dabbi’ya.
1996
Commissioned Bu Hasa and Bab North gas injection projects, and completed construction of the 4th main oil pipeline.
1997
Completed the second phase of the Housing Compound as well as Bab - Bu Hasa road project.
1998
Completed new Headquarters Building project.
1999
Completed Asab gas development project.
2000
Completed three projects comprising Asab and Jebel Dhanna Office /Accommodation upgrades, two new Asab frame-6 generators and Shah infill wells.
2001
Completed the refurbishment of Old Office Building in Abu Dhabi and the Jebel Dhanna infrastructure upgrade.
2002
Completed Asab Zone A/B pilot gas injection, Bab new additional manifold, Bab infrastructure upgrade, Bu Hasa two additional manifolds and Huwaila multiphase pump installation projects.
2003
The following projects were completed: New RDS Manifolds (Asab), Vapour Recovery and Minimised Flaring (Asab/Sahil), Water Injection Enhancement (Sahil), Vapour Recovery and Zero Flaring Pilot (Bab), Water Injection Power Skid Replacement (Bu Hasa) and FEED completed for Onshore Power Generation Integration (Fields General).
2004
Completed six full field development subsurface models
2005
Drilling activities witnessed considerable achievements. Commissioned Bab facilities expansion and North East Bab accommodation projects. Best annual Contract performance since inception in 2001, including annual LTIF rate of 0.16.
2006
ADCO achieved highest annual oil production ever (about 1,363 Mbd) while honoring guidelines. Commissioned Huwaila facilities as part of the 1.4 MMbd Scheme.
2007
Achieved highest annual production ever ((about 1379 Mbd) while honouring guidelines
2008

- Agreement reached to undertake CO2 EOR pilot (first in the GCC region)

- Female employees started working in ADCO field locations
